in response to this particular topic but I do not see or feel that it is as prevalent as others make it seem, it might just be me since I grew up treating girls the same as boys (most of the time  )... I don't read comics much (too annoyingly short and costly) but I do read books and a good deal of movies and animation... I see most stories as just that, stories... I look to comics, novels, movies etc for entertainment and if they present a moral that is good too... some are meant to be more but they are obvious in that regard and treat their subject in that fashion but if somethings primary intent is to entertain then obsessing over the possible meanings of one characters costume (possibly designed by a seperate person from the writer) or manner of dialog or the circumstances that was given as plot hook to introduce them seems excessive... now in the case of these comics being written by committee/corporation it is likely very true since they don't know what they are doing so just follow proven formulas from the past which in essense means they repeat their errors... but in general I think people are looking for what they want be it good story or repressive symbols and something, in this case comics, so rich in content and symbology anyone can find the evidence of their point of view... much like any scientific study can have diametricly opposed results based from the same data depending on what the presenter wants to prove...
