Spoiler alert: The Star Trek movie thread!

If you do not want spoilers ect you should not be reading this thread!

OMG I love it. I think that has a bit to do with how disappointing the wolverine movie was, but either way I enjoyed it. I do not when they fuck with histories, but it was forgivable.

They did a masterful job, good show. I had my worries half way through but they pulled it off in normal Star Trek Fashion.

We talked about it a bit after seeing it. Some people (I'll let you guess who) weren't a fan of jumbling up history stuff. On the other hand, it gives them artistic license to basically do whatever, and avoid the typical problems with prequals (ie: inadvertant retcon).

Personally, I found the movie to be enjoyable. There were very few points where it really slowed down very much. It kept fairly loyal to most of the characters (at least as I know them, admitedly I haven't seen every ep of TOS, but I've seen several and all the movies). The visual effects were very pretty. I'll probably have more opinions later, need to work though...

There are very few movies I can say this about, but as a movie in itself it was pretty good. Action, acting, effects, all were pretty good. Even characters I mostly hate (like... all of TOS) were engaging.

As part of a larger whole, I want people to feel great pain for making this film. I hate Kirk, I hate prequels, I hate fucking with continuity, and I hate that they refuse to forward the storyline of a universe I like b/c they are too shitty to come up with new ideas. I also kind of dislike some of the ways that they are re-characterizing spock. He's less vulcan, and more of a really analytical human. While it would be nice to see him bring balance to logic/emotion, I don't think that's the direction they are taking him, I think it is more a play to the fact that people LIKE emotion, and emotionless characters just don't appeal to as many people. And because (and they spoke to this in the movie several times) FEELINGS are ultimate truth, at least in the cultural ideals of this society.

So, in short, I can like it as a movie, hate what it stands for, and hate it as part of the greater universe (assuming they keep using this as the "new and improved" timeline instead of going back to the original timeline).

Oh, and green women are hawt.

Green women are extremely hot. It was she-hulk hotness as I always wanted.

When it comes to altering histories I am not a huge fan, but at lest they stated this movie occurred in an alternate universe/time line. Also this is kind of cool because now they can use this same cast to make new TOS style movies that do not alter the history we already know. Heck they can make a sequel where they undo the entire alternate universe they created here.

Finally saw it tonight, I loved it, and I don't normally like prequels. In response to them fucking with the timeline and continuity, at least they didn't introduce metachlorians, or have people forgotten about the series that shall not be named?

Family is dragging me to see it again tonight. I love it. It's what I wanted the unnamed trilogy to be. Abrams made a fan film that is appealing to all. My daughter is even a fan. I have bought her several toys and the kids meal Trek goodies. Good times.

Me and Temple finally went to see it... I loved it. The actors were dead on, and did a bang up job of recreating younger versions of old characters. The special effects, well they were amazing. the script was polished and wel written. All in all it was an awesome movie.

I was highly amused by the fact that Romulans were yet again at the heart of a major cataclysm, and yet they still had the gaul to complain that everyone just sat by while their world was destroyed.

The only thing I didn't like was what they did with Spock. The semi-emotional semi-human is soooo uncool, and unlike the character. Seeing him and Ohura made me feel yucky. I pretty much agree with Cheyne as to why this happened.

All in all I look forward to seeing a few movies with this cast, and hopefully director. It was a neat way to go, and it turned out good.
All things in moderation...Except syrup.
