The Art Club

Post by Rusty »

Back in college, I used to have pseudo flirty chat conversations with a rather delicious fellow student of mine about art, but rather than just talking about art in general, we used one of several online art galleries and would actually discuss specific works of art while looking at them, from the comfort of our dorm rooms.

With BBCode being what it is, an art club here would allow us to all view the exact (within the limits of video cards and monitors, which for jpgs should be precisely similay) same works. And react to them.

Obviously, this would not be limited to just paintings, and personal art work could also be submitted.

Any takers?

I could be up for that.

I suppose depending on what people are looking for I have several suggetions.

Modern art is always good for a debate.

Modern art is also good for starting fires.

let's start with one of my favorites

Vincent van Gogh. Fishing in Spring, Pont de Clichy. 1887. Oil on canvas.

It makes me angry. To elaborate further, it makes me angry that I can't see it in person. I have recently seen that pictures in person are totally different than those on a screen or in a book (which i of course have been told for ages, and believed... but didn't exactly understand).

From the picture, I am not horribly impressed, but I know that so much is lost, especially in oil, due to texture infidelity... and especially for vang Gogh, b/c he painted soooo heavily and with so much texture.

i would love to see starry night up close...

Anyway, the thing that caught my eye immediately in the above pic was the clustering of the boats... not a neat, clean picture. looked kind of chaotic, but in a boring, drab way.
