The classics

Post by Amseriah »

I am watching Beastmaster right now and I felt inspired to start a thread about all of the old classic fantasy and sci-fi movies that have inspired us over the years....Yeah Beastmaster rocks...M'Kay.

LOL I forgot about the circular logic involved in the prophecy in this movie. Dar is destined to kill the bad guy, but he only embarks on his quest because the bad guy tried to find and kill him...

I gotta give some love to the neverending story. aside from whatever awesome it might possess, i ran a d&d campaign based entirely off of its main premise for over a year.

Childlike Empress: Bastian, why don't you do what you dream, Bastian?

Bastian: But I can't! I have to keep my feet on the ground!

Childlike Empress: Call my name! Bastian, please! Save us!

Bastian: All right, I'll do it. I'll save you. I will do what I dream!

Bastian: Why is it so dark?

Empress Moonchild: In the beginning it is always dark.

Bastian: What is that?

Empress Moonchild: One grain of sand. It is all that remains of my vast empire.

Bastian: Fantasia has totally disappeared?

Empress Moonchild: Yes

Bastian: Then everything has been in vain.

Empress Moonchild: No, it hasn't. Fantasia can arise in you. In your dreams and wishes Bastian.

Bastian: How?

Empress Moonchild: Open your hand.

Empress Moonchild: What are you going to wish for?

Bastian: I don't know.

Empress Moonchild: Then there will be no Fantasia any more.

Bastian: How many wishes do I get?

Empress Moonchild: As many as you want. And the more wishes you make, the more magnificent Fantasia will become.

Bastian: Really?

Empress Moonchild: Try it.

“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.”

I am kinda surprised that Cheyne has not mentioned the Conan movies.

Oh hell yes, I have a massive collection of all things tangerine dream, they are one of many considered to be the godfathers of techno, not unlike devo, or daft punk, and many many others who are way too cool to call human.

Flash Gordon owns my soul, Max Von Sydow, Brian Blessed, and Timothy Dalton in their true prime, not to mention a soundtrack that was ALL QUEEN, they also did the majority of the score, or so I am told.

There is no arguing how much Conan The Barbarian surpasses this thread and many like it, Arnold, Mako (voice of aku from Samurai Jack), and James Earl Jones, have rocked and will rock millions of screens. And lest we forget the actress who did little else in her career, but dressed as a valkyrie, and sporting a nice Queen reference she sparkles at the center of the galaxy that is that movie.

Speaking of which, robot chicken made a great reference to Conan The Barbarian, I won't spoil it, here is the link to a video of said sketch.

Wow... I love robot chicken.

as for legend, i actually only liked the cinematography and the score. i watched the recent director's cut that restored the tangerine dream themesong, and was much happier with it overall.
