Voyage around the world.

Post by Rusty »

I'd like to ask the lost knights a pseudo-hypthetical question.

Suppose I wanted to travel around the world and to various countries in a big yacht, would you want to come with? Suppose the voyage would probably take most of a year, but you could come for a passage, or stay the whole time.

so you're saying that I should bring an espresso machine. got it.

anything more...specific? I'd like this to be a discussion, if possible.

work considerations aside I would love to get that kind of exposure

hmm, possible addendum. Crossing the pacific would take three weeks, and crossing the atlantic would take two. Or somewhere in there. The rest of the time it'd be probably one or two nights between locations, at most a week, suppose from japan to australia, that'd take a while. And rounding africa would take a couple weeks as well. So basically, there would be a few times that we didn't set foot on land for weeks on end. That might change things a bit for you.

I appreciate the responses so far.

well those weeks could be more easily passed by picking up people we meet in various ports of call....

let's imagine for a second that this was happening right now. Even though it's not. this is the kind of boat we'd use:

If a doctor saves and invests right, this kind of boat is totally possible. Or if someone publishes successful novels. Anyway, for your imagining hypothetical goodness.

That's pretty friggin' sizable for a boat.

In that event I'd be far more tempted to tag along. :P

Edit: You did see the part where the price tag was $10M, right?

yeah. I figure I can haggle him down to 9,999,999.99

Actually, boats very much like that are available for half that cost. I think they're pushing their luck asking 10m for a 45 year old boat, regardless of refits. Josh is the next andy warhol anyway, he'll buy a dozen of these, sink them, and buy a dozen more, just to do it.

this is a bit more like what a doc can afford

http://www.yachtworld.com/core/listing/ ... 75438&url=

I did the math, depending on specialty and region, a doc could accrue enough to afford a boat like this and operate it, without exhausting his funds. But this is all hypothetical, isn't it? or is it.

Sure, i could find a way to take a few weeks off and maybe just bullshit my way into a few more weeks through FMLA, nothing like lying and using the government for some cruise time.
