yeah, pretty much that.

No no, don't go be a better person and make a new life, that's not what our parole system is supposed to do. We'll let you out 70yrs early, but only so you can be miserable under our supervision.

You know, I do understand the need to keep watch over prisoners released early, but come on, there needs to be some fucking mitigating circumstances.

I was reading another article recently talking about how a great many judges hate mandatory sentencing, b/c it lumps all crime into broad categories, with no look at circumstances, and turns the law into a mockery of justice (the article was interestingly on child porn viewers, who often get more jail time than child molesters, or the people actually making the vids/pics).

the child porn viewer thing kind of ticked me off. From a legal standpoint it makes it more favorable to actually go out and actively do something than be a closet perv and watch. I am against it in either form, but encouraging the pedo's seems like a bad idea.

pretty much the judges' point as well. The other side of the argument points out that the viewers are driving the people to go out and make such films/pics, but there is still a big diff imo.

Oh, drug laws are that way too. The war on drugs + marijuana being a higher schedule drug than Cocaine and opiates = far more profit in selling "hard" drugs, and a lot of petty criminals in jail for life. Asinine.

I like (screaming murder hate) the capitalism at work in our legal system. Blame the consumer for purchasing, firstly because it is likely less manpower than taking down the larger problems and because the large scale producers of the pron and drugs have much better lawyers.
