Brave New Empire - Brave New Empire

Post by Liquidprism »

This is the basic run down for the Star Wars game I will be running.

It’s been a couple of years since the fall of Emperor Palpatine at the hands of a young rebel and self proclaimed Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker. It seemed an era of hope would begin as the Alliance against the Empire with its shining ideals had succeeded. However, hope has been forgotten as rumors spread, and life for the most part has not changed.
Rumors that the young Jedi has proclaimed himself as new Emperor, rumors of massive fleets moving in the out regions, defected Imperials. Rumors of a new school of Corruscant where talented individuals are taken, yet never return.
The characters are beings struggling like so many others during this time of transition. Large sections of the old Empire have broken away from the new regime, attempting to establish their own space, and rule. Several would be pretenders to the Imperial Throne have begun to openly challenge the mandates coming from the throne world.
The bulk of the old Alliance fleet has been disbanded, and worked into the Imperial Forces loyal to the new Empire. Yet, strangely not all of those rebel forces have accepted indoctrination. A few remnants of that organization still maintain a distance from the Imperial throne, and its edicts. Meanwhile, news has spread of a call out to any individual strong in the Force to report to Corruscant and the New Imperial Jedi Academy for training.
There are rumors of countless assassinations and assassination attempts against many political leaders. Anyone doing research will find a majority of these persons were closely linked to the old Alliance, and chose to follow young Skywalker in his endeavor. Now they are dead.
On the plus side equal rights laws for aliens have started to come into effect, and most species enjoy equal treatment, at least on the surface. Many human activists, and Imperial purists have begun protests, and in most branches of the imperial military non-humans are still made to be unwanted.

The story begins around the planet of Dathomir. Worlds like Dathomir, Felucia, and Revyia with high concentrations of Force Sensitive individuals have come under Imperial scrutiny, probably due to the young emperors penchants for the Force. These populations are in negotiations with the Empire, who wishes to gain access to a percent of their populations for special training at the new academy on Corruscant. Sentients, like the Dathomir Witches are strongly opposed to this, but have agreed to talks.
Massive space stations have been built in orbit around each world, and a single Imperial spaceport has been built on the surface. These stations act as housing complexes for diplomatic relations, and system traffic. Several large export marketers are attempting to open relations as well.

Hope this helps to set the story a bit. Characters will of course need a reason to be involved in all this. The Spacestation is a restricted access Imperial Facility, though the planet side starport (while Imperial controlled) is not soley a military compound. Some of the more outgoing (for Dathomirian Witches) tribes have even begun to visit the port, and mingle with the strange off worlders.

Story Hook

At some point within the last several years of your life, you were taken from mainstream galactic life. Perhaps abducted is a better word, for what occurred. No matter your position, trade, or species you were taken into custody by the infamous red armored guards of the Emperors private task force. Perhaps you knew they were after you, and had spent your time running. Then again, maybe you had no idea you were a target. It mattered little when they finally caught up, and any struggle was in vain.

You were taken to the capitol world of Coruscant, you know this because you were told. It didn’t matter if you knew, as there was little hope of escape. Once the ship landed a quick glimpse of the sprawling cityscape, and a beautiful sunset were your last glimpse of the outer world for many years to come. You were forced into a secluded military compound, and locked away. The next few years were absolute hell.

You were an experiment. One of many you came to find out. You had a talent rarely found in sentient creatures. You could feel the Force. This ability alone was why you were imprisoned. It was not wholly detrimental, because in order to make you a better experiment, they had to teach you how to use your ability. Not only this but you were kept in peak physical condition. Your mental state was less cared for. In fact it seemed that they tried time and time again to break you. They wanted you malleable, and obedient. Perhaps you gave in, or perhaps you fought. Fighting only made each day that much worse, and giving in only meant they used you more harshly. Life was a nightmare.

Your one goal was to survive, and hopefully one day to be free again. To this end you did what you needed to. You became one of the best. You exceeded expectation, and overcame the trials set before you. Some were not pretty, but you survived. You were away that others like you were undergoing the same thing. You were also aware of the horrible rate at which those others died, and were replaced.

This went on for what seemed like eternity, but in fact it was less than a decade for even the oldest prisoners. Everything changed was you awoke from a restless sleep to the sound of blaster fire, and the tremors of war.

Your cell was opened at random by strangers. You reacted with the reflexes trained into you, and exited into chaos. The building was in ruins, corridors were on fire, walls had collapsed, and bodies lay everywhere. Some you recognized, others were strange, but they were all dead or dying. You fought your way through the chaos with those that had freed you. Some died, others made it through. One amongst them knew a way out, and so you followed. Eventually you made your way to a hangar with a ship.

Once aboard with several dozen others, the ship blasted off, and tore through into space. The area around the planet was no different. Ships fought in a titanic struggle of power. Your vessel was one of thousands attempting just to escape the fighting. You had a good pilot and luck (for once) on your side, and once free of the interdictor fields, the vessel fled into hyperspace.

After weeks of traveling away from the chaos, both low on supplies, and emotionally subdued, the ship reached a planet. Many of those on board simply fled as soon as the ship docked, leaving confusion in their wake. You realized that most of the others around you were probably mad, from the whole ordeal. You and a few of the saner ones exited the ship, and stepped into civilization. You quickly caught up with galactic events.

A group of rebels had been fighting the Empire and had finally won. They had killed the Emperor, and were now taking back the galaxy. The Empire still had loyalists however, and the war was raging. Other seedier characters, and taken the opportunity to try and profit. Pirating was rampant, and whole fleets of the former Empire had gone rogue. It was a mess. In addition to this one the rebel leaders had proclaimed himself the new Emperor, and was pledging to bring the galaxy to better times.

So you watched from a remote world on the rim of charted space, and saw the war unfold, and one dictator replaced by another. The new Emperor seemed better, but rumors began to circulate, and a dark cloud began to grow in your mind. A decree was issued that a new Jedi Academy was being built, and great things were offered to those that would come and join. Your experiences under Palpatine left you wary. Then you felt the call.

You and those other survivors of Palpatine’s facility still with you, heard a plea through the Force. You sensed destiny was upon you, and were drawn by the need to go. So after some deliberation you, and the others traded what little supplies you still had, and the ship you had used to escape for a smaller space worthy transport, and punched in the appropriate coordinates. Your destination was Dathomir, and you had know I idea what awaited you.

Something else which occurred to me, and Cheyne also seemed to have a similar thought (we might be a hive mind).... You each have an identity code tattooed upon you. This can be any where that makes sense, probably an arm or your face. This serial number was your identity the whole time your were imprisoned. You may have even come to think of yourself by that name, instead of your real one. It is most certainly how you know your companions at this point.

The symbols are all in galactic basic, but the serial number itself looks something like the following in english: Fac:3/lab-spec:X-00.

The 'Fac:3/lab-spec: is the same on everyone, but the X-00 will be different, and what you are called. The letter represents the batch you came in with (so those that were incarcerated the longest will have letters that appear sequentially earlier in the alphabet. The numerals represent your processing number within your batch, each batch is 01-50. Past this its up to you what you want your number to be. I will try to translate them into galactic basic for the game, so you can see what your 'name' looks like.

Im gonna clean this thread up a bit. There is a lot of unnecessary stuff here. Sorry if this offends anyone, but I really want to just have necessary posting here, for easier access to the data.

Okay, so now there should only be essential data to the game itself. Some of the rules and things are probably going to change soon as well. When they do they will be deleted from this thread, and moved into one more appropriate. This will leave only essential info about the plot, and character creation for the Brave New Empire, Star Wars game.

So, after tonight's session we should be through the first part of this game. This means that several things change for the player characters. The main change is that skill pools will have there caps raised. The new cap is 10D, with 11D reserved for specialties. This allows for die pools that make you veritable legends.

We are also at the point where the party needs to find a master. I have several plans here, but it will be up to you all to decide what you do. A master isn't going to just fall into your lap. If you want a real teacher you need to find one. I will provide the clues, and the information, but you will have to go on the journey. Also, know that it will be really hard to receive training from a teacher who is aligned to the opposite side of the Force without fully embracing their path.

Anyway, I guess this will probably be discussed a bit more at the game, but I thought I would give a heads up.
